The Ways of the Diaper (Bag that is)

In all my years of parenting, I have accumulated many, many diaper bags. A few are still alive and a few didn’t quite hold up to my standards *read: not fall apart*.

I thought I would take a minute here to talk about all the ways those old diaperbags can come in handy even after they have served the purpose of hauling around snacks, toys, bottles, clothes and of course… diapers.

Now that the kids are older (well all of them but one), I have used some of our old bags as overnight bags for grandma’s house. There are benefits of using your old diaperbags as an overnight bag:

Diaperbags normally have a few more compartments than the kid suitcases or rolling bags they offer now, so you have a separate place for a hairbrush, toothbrush, toothpaste and all the other toiletries that go to grandma’s house.

They are pretty roomy. I remember coming home from my grandma’s house with a few more things than I arrived with. That’s the way of trips to grandma’s. They get kids stuff. They spoil them. Might as well have room for it all. Just because I am not a little girl anymore doesn’t mean I can’t use my old diaper bag for an overnight bag for myself. I have a favorite one that I still use to this day for nights out and I have room for everything… even the hair dryer and straightener.

Hide The Toys

You’ve surely heard how you are supposed to recycle your kids toys so that they don’t get bored with what they have right? Well, the diaper bag is perfect for this. Your old diaper bag can hold blocks, legos, doll clothes, doll accessories (how many pairs of Barbie and Bratz shoes can YOU put in a diaper bag?),even hot wheels and trains.

Let’s expand on that though; Let your little girl use the diaper bag for her own “baby” and fill it up with things baby will need. She can put her doll clothes, bottles, toys, blankets and even doll size diapers in it for when her and “baby” go out.

Have Bag will Travel

The whole purpose of the diaper bag was to be able to cart around everthing you need for baby while you are out in one convenient place right?

Why does that have to stop? Fill the extra diaper bags with essentials and put them in the trunk of your car or under a seat. It’s a convenient place to hide extra wipes for spills, tissues, an extra set of hats and gloves for those cold days, and you never know when it’s YOU who needs a change of clothes.

Yes, diaper bags don’t necessarily have to be given away when the baby outgrows the need for one.

I am sure you can think of a few more uses for them as well. Care to share them with me?
