Building Fun: K’NEX Style – Mommy Knows Giveaway!

knex carsOne of the most popular toys in my house are the K’NEX

construction sets. With three boys it’s really no stretch of the imagination as to why. So far the boys have created everything from motorcycles and cars to out of this world contraptions that open and close and can even trap and torture a wayward stuffed animal or Polly Pocket.

Now the great people at K’NEX have taken two of my boys favorite building sets and combined them to bring imagination and innovation to life. By combining K’NEX bricks (similar and compatible with Legos), young builders can incorporate the other parts of the K’NEX building sets to create new "inventions" (at my house, whenever something new is created, it’s an "Invention"). To the boys, the opportunities are endless!rescue_over_02

Cody and Ethan got a chance to build the latest designs to come from K’NEX with the Dueling Racers and Rescue Sets.

The Dueling Racers comes with instruction books, enough pieces to make a total of four cars (two at a time) and battery-powered engines. While the Rescue Sets comes with an instruction booklet and instructions to make two separate rescue vehicles.

I was able to catch the young engineers in various stages of development: Here we see Ethan and Cody working on the fire truck which is pictured above.

The thing that I love about the K’NEX sets is that even after weeks of playing with them, they haven’t lost the boys’ interest. Every day one of them comes to me with something new. See the cars at the top? Cody brought me a rocket ship made out of the car pieces (and it even had a driver!) The one thing the boys agreed on was that the instructions for the cars were a little too complicated for Ethan who is seven (the cars are for ages 7 and up).

Here Cody works on the construction of one of his cars.

The boys also liked the fact that they could create more than one car. For instance, in the video I have below, Ethan races one design, while Cody races another. It’s something that they can do together which gives it a thumbs up in my book!

The boys wanted to give a demonstration of the cars so we put together a little video so you can see how they work!

Here’s the best part: I have partnered with Child’s Play Communications to give away two Rescue Set Construction Kits to one lucky person! The sets value around $4.99 each and are for ages 5 and up.

The rules are simple:

Create a post on your own blog about the contest and then leave a comment with a link to your post. I will use my extreme mathematical system to choose a winner!

The contest will run from today, the 23rd, through Sunday and we will announce a winner on Monday, April 28th.

Good luck!
