The Big Ones That Don’t Get Away
7 May
This kind of high only a mommy can experience. It’s a high I can’t get enough of. You could say, I’m addicted.
Addicted to watching my little boy learn about the world around him.
Tonight, I taught Lil Man to stick his fingertips in the fish tank. We only have a few tiny little fish, mostly Neon Tetras, and they are all harmless. They were hungry tonight, so when his tiny fingertips touched the water they all surfaced for what they thought was food. Lil Man giggled uncontrollably while they nibbled on his fingers. Then one of the ghost shrimp swam up and tickled him be grabbing hold of his fingertip with all it’s legs. It tried to “clean” Lil Man’s fingers, just as it would a rock.
We fed the fish together, let them nibble on our fingers some more, and talked about them. I asked him to point them out when I named their colors and he did. Then I taught him the tiny fish with blue and red stripes were called Neon Tetras and he repeated after me.
After the fishes bellies were full and they lost interest in our fingers we snuggled up on the couch together and doodled on Lil Man’s magic pad.
These tiny moments. This seeing their faces light up. The knowing they’ve grasped a concept. It’s what makes parenting a joy and fills a mother’s heart with pride!
These are the memories that we’ll hold onto!
What are your most proud moments as a parent? Was it watching your child take his first step, or handing your daughter her high school report card, knowing her good grades would make her squeal with delight?
