Powder Art Review

powderartAround here, painting and art projects are usually Daddy’s domain and crafty things are more my cup of tea. I can trace and cut and glue and design, but I cannot draw or paint. Finding those kind of projects that I can do with my preschooler can be difficult.

When I was offered a Powder Art kit to try out, I visited the website and immediately got excited about the possibilities that these projects offered. Anything that says you can paint with no mess already gets brownie points in my book.

The age range of Powder Art is from 5 years and up, but from my experience, younger children can use the kits with a little help. Even kids on the lower end of the age range will probably need help getting set up.

There really was very little mess and the pictures came out looking very cool. You use the powder to paint over the adhesive on the paper, which loses its stickiness as your picture takes shape. K was very excited that his picture actually came out looking like the animal we intended to paint — something that never happens when mommy tries to draw or paint.

The only problems we had (besides keeping his 2 yr old brother out of the way) were with peeling off the stickers. They were, at times, a bit hard to catch hold of even for me and smaller kids might need a little grown up help to get them off. Other than that, it was everything the product promised it would be. The only mess was a bit of spilled powder, which was very easily wiped up.

Overall, I think Powder Art is a great product for school aged kids, as well as preschoolers and parents to do together. Kits are affordable – $10 gets you 4 pictures, powder, and a “palette” and paintbrush. Even for the non-artists among us, these are a fun way to express creativity and easily stay within the lines. We are definitely looking forward to pulling our kit out again soon and doing another picture.
