Angie,

Please tell me you're kidding when you say the government or someone from the government wouldn't try to spread lies or propaganda. If you believe that, then you need to do a bit more research.

We're being lied to by the government about the very state of our economy! Many believe the Federal Reserve is a division or branch of the government. They aren't aware that it's a PRIVATE ENTITY! Our government & the leaders in our government have lied to us many times over.

Now...on the actual issue of the speech. The only thing I didn't agree with about the speech was where it talked about the kids serving the President. Like a previous commenter said, it should be the other way around!

Nikki,

I agree with you some...

I listened in on the last part of the speech, and the content was fine. Like most parents who're complaining, I didn't know one could read the speech beforehand. I saw links to the questionaires, and reading those made me a tad upset...

What the President said was encouraging and completely ok in my book. I'm not a big supporter of him, personally, but I know a lot of young people are, so for him to get up there and say something like that may really help some kids.

The problem I had was with the work papers that were supposed to be used after the speech. Some of them said things like "why should we listen to our president" or "how do you think we could help the president" (all paraphrases here) and this is where the problem lies. Our kids are no longer taught that the presidency is a job of service to the country and the citizens. He is supposed to serve we the people, not the other way around. Not that Pres. Obama is trying to make himself a king, but in general, for years now, people have been putting the responsibilities that belong to them, on the president and government. These include education.

Most parents are no longer involved enough in their child's life to hold a place of respect in their child's hearts. A parent saying the things the president said should hold much more weight that him saying it, but it rarely works that way anymore.

I'm not upset that the president addressed and tried to encourage today's kids, I'm just upset that it has come to this...

PS. Do you know if there was a video, with a bunch of celebrities on it, shown before the president's speech? If so... that video is highly disturbing. It shows celebrities pledging to do all kinds of good and nice things... with a few "I pledge to serve Obama" ones thrown in there. Not good. Not good.
