Verizon Palm Pre Plus: Creating and Sharing Videos

The one thing I loved about my BlackBerry was the video feature. Until the Palm Pre Plus rolled out the newest update, we couldn’t record or share videos as there was no video capabilities. This sucked big time for me because I loved sharing the kids’ activities with Brian when he had to work and the rest of our extended family. Having a phone that performs video functions well is extremely important to me.

Needless to say I was very excited to see the newest update and video feature with the Palm Pre Plus. This made me a little more excited to have the phone.

I created my first video with Peanut at the park 2 weeks ago. It was one of the first nice days we’d had in MONTHS AND MONTHS so I was excited to share some of our park time with everyone.

Unfortunately, I think that video sharing has it’s limitations with the Palm Pre Plus. Even trimming my video down to the shortest amount of time allowed (I couldn’t get it smaller than 20 seconds), the recipients never received the video. I did get an error notice that the file was too big but I could not see any way to trim the video down further. Plus, while trying to edit and send to friends a second time, I saw that the max time for video sharing was around 47 seconds. That tells me that the 20 second video that I sent via MMS should have had NO PROBLEM being received.

Playback on the Palm Pre Plus video feature is lacking severely. My video was horribly pixelated and laggy. I can’t even bear to watch the whole thing. However, I wondered if it was just how the video came across in playback so I decided to upload it to youtube and see how that went.

Not Ready for Youtube.

My first attempt at uploading my video which was just a bit over two minutes did not go well. After an hour and 30 minutes of watching the video upload be “in process”, I canceled it. It was slowing my phone and draining my battery.  I’m not one to go down without a fight though and assumed that the video was just too large and needed trimmed. I shortened my video to 1:06 and tried again. Success! My video upload was received.

I see no difference from what I played back on the Palm Pre Plus to what I see on youtube. Where you hear me asking Peanut about “and what’s that?” Peanut had already moved and was sitting on another bench. While the video does show all of that, it’s not as good of a quality (and lags horribly) as I’d expect from a phone with it’s own operating system.

I’m hopeful that since the Palm Pre Plus has it’s own operating system, further OS updates will improve the video capabilities and video quality. I love to share my videos with my family. As I mentioned before, sharing videos through our phones is one way I keep Brian connected to the kids’ games and activities when he has to work.

I’m going to keep playing with the video feature though and do a search as to why it’s so laggy and pixelated. If it’s a case of Operator Error (that’s me folks) then I want to fix it. Being able to share videos with Brian keeps us connected when we can’t always be together and that’s very important to me.

**This is part of a promotion through Verizon Wireless. I was provided with a Palm Pre Plus and one month’s paid service to participate. No other compensation was received. As always, all opinions expressed and editorial are my own.

Strange! Mine worked right off the bat. Not a problem. I was able to both email and upload to Facebook right from my phone, within minutes. No problems with sizing either.

I wonder if it has something to do with the service where you are? Perhaps the lag in the slow upload is scrambling stuff? I don’t know. lol

Which is why I’m determined to keep playing around with it. You know I won’t give up on it. I wondered if it had anything to do with location too but I wouldn’t think that would have anything to do with why it was so pixelated or laggy on playback. By then it would be considered in the “hard drive” of the OS right? I’m a little baffled but not willing to give up just yet.
