No?
Well, let’s do that because it’s a good story and you really must know.
I actually received my first Palm Pre Plus almost 3 weeks ago. Joy and elation became me and I was immediately impressed with the phone. I mean, my BlackBerry was smart; that’s why I loved it, but this thing? It was fanfreakintastic.
In about 30 seconds of inputting both my personal email account and my gmail accounts, I found I had an address book full of people. Some, I didn’t even know unless their first name was listed. This is the Palm Pre’s way of connecting you to your contacts without you having to do any of the work beyond knowing your email address and password. Easy-peasy rice and cheesy.
I’m not sure how I feel about having one time PR contacts or the wayward customer service email listed in my contacts but since the Palm Pre Plus has the feature to dial by name or number, I’m not concerned too much about it. I mean, if I REALLY WANTED TO, I could go in and delete each individual contact from my gmail accounts that I don’t want in my phone but because I’m lazy and it makes me look WAAAY more important to scroll through all of my contacts to find who I’m looking for… I’ll likely keep everyone in there.
However, the first Saturday I had the phone (only 4 short days after receiving the phone), it stopped working. My calls weren’t coming in, email and web surfing wasn’t happening unless I was connected to the wireless network in my house and it dropped every call I made. I should add that this was also the day that the latest operating system for the Palm Pre was pushed through. I was less than happy. Especially when hubs had to call Bug’s phone to get a hold of me.
NOT GOOD.
I placed a call to Verizon on that Sunday morning and went through an extensive 50 minute phone call with one of their tech persons (bless her very patient heart btw) who tested every possible issue with me. We determined that it was either a bad phone or the OS push somehow messed something up. Either way, a second Palm Pre Plus was on it’s way.
Here’s where I’m going to blow your mind.
When the new phone arrived and I powered it up, I immediately started trying to remember all of the things I’d already done/loaded into first phone. There was NO WAY to retrieve that information (to my knowledge) and so I got pissed off panicked again over all the information I would have to re-enter. Including a Girl Scout Cookie order from a very nice stranger who stopped me at the grocery store and saw my van loaded down with cookies.
(Insert Panic Attack Here).
What I forgot and didn’t realize was that upon receiving the first Palm Pre Plus, I created a palm profile for the phone. Let me just say that the palm profile is akin to having my own personal Merlin walking around in cyberspace. When I was prompted to enter or create a palm profile, I entered my email and password from the first phone and Holy Hell! All of my emails, contacts, the pictures I added to some of my contacts (I like to see who is calling when possible) and even the damn Girl Scout cookie order was in there!
The phone was smarter than me. It was like it said, “Hold on honey, I know you’re going to forget all this so I’ll just hang on to it for you.”
Sadly, I cannot say that my BlackBerry would have done that (Not judging… just saying that my BB Pearl would have looked at me and said, “You’re screwed sister.” Do the newest BlackBerry phones do that? I honestly don’t know so if you know, let me know).
The night the first Palm Pre Plus stopped working sucked big time because it was Bug’s Spring band concert and I did lose the pictures of him that I took and since my phone wouldn’t update to the new OS, I couldn’t record the concert either. (More on the new video feature in a future post).
I’m happy to say though that the new phone I received is working beautifully, it now records video and the pictures I’m taking are of much better quality than my BlackBerry. I’m hoping that my new love affair with the Palm Pre Plus continues.
This is part of a promotion through Verizon Wireless. I was provided with a Palm Pre Plus and one month’s paid service to participate. No other compensation was received. As always, all opinions expressed and editorial are my own.

Yay! I’m LOVING my video feature! And you’re right, the photo quality is great for a phone. My only complaint is that I can’t turn off the flash. Sometimes it’s just too much, ya know?
Have you tried Facebook from the Pre yet? They just upgraded the app and it’s fabulous. hehe
