But let’s pretend for a minute or three that I didn’t.
Two years ago, Miley Cyrus was all kinds of tore up over this photo shoot with Vanity Fair. I blogged about it Miley’s Tween Angel image becoming tainted because as a mom, I thought that the adults in charge of her held some of the blame and responsibility for the image Miley was putting out to the world. I STILL think that they hold some responsibility but what do I know? It’s not like I have a daughter – or hell, even a teenage boy for that matter. (Insert jaded sarcasm here).
So now that Miley’s latest video is out, I have to laugh. No I mean, really. REALLY LAUGH MY ASS OFF.
Dearest Miley, if you were afraid of what that little teeny, tiny ass photo shoot was going to do to your squeaky clean image you should be down right petrified of what people think of you now (especially moms like me who happen to control what her daughter buys and doesn’t buy).
Because there’s no way in HELL my daughter will have another poster of you on her wall, buy another Miley CD or download a song from iTunes now. That pointless Wii game that we have promoting your movie – It’s a cup coaster now sweetheart. The few things of the Miley/Hannah Montana brand that we have in the house are the only things we’ll have from here on out.
This is where I draw the line in the smut-ridden sand.
I was all for Miley until now. I was willing to grant her a little slack two years ago because of her youth and assumed innocence in her role to stardom but it seems like Miley is all to eager to take embarrassment on as she tries to make that switch from teen sensation to adult performer (and I don’t mean adult as in ADULT, or maybe I do. I’m not sure yet). Either way, the image that Miley puts out (pun intended) in this video makes me justthisside of sick to my stomach.
If you haven’t seen the video yourself, feel free to watch it below. And remember to pick your jaw up off the floor.
Are you OK? Are you still with me?
What strikes me as ironic is how she sings/begs “Don’t change me. Don’t change me”… Honey, we don’t need to change you, you’re doing it all on your own (a bang up job of that lemme tell ya) and it’s my turn to say that I’m embarrassed.
While I do understand this need to grow up and come into your own, I don’t know if a shock-rock video is the way to do it. It’s turning off parents and sending young girls the wrong message.
Then again… if mom and dad don’t care of how she’s ruining herself, then why should she? I mean, Dear Daddy Billy Ray Cyrus was quoted in US Magazine as saying: “It’s what people her age do,” when she was giving a LAP DANCE to director Adam Shankman at a wrap party. Billy Ray said that she was also “just having fun”.
Maybe that “casting couch” thing really exists after all.
I realize that the world Hollywood lives in is different from the rest of us but that doesn’t mean that the rest of us has to buy into it or believe the crap they are trying to sell us.
Billy Ray, let me give you a clue; This is NOT what kids her age do. At least not the ones with morals and responsible parents. You know, the kind that I am very much believing that you are not. Your daughter is still underage. Not old enough to drink, smoke, vote, or die for her country which means that you’re in charge until she is.
Grow a pair and be her damn father.
I really should not be surprised (remember in the beginning I said I saw this coming). I mean Billy Ray says he gives his kids freedom to create the kind of art they choose to create. (OH the places I’m about to with that statement)…
That’s fan-freakin-tastic Billy because guess what? Some people argue that POR*N IS ART! Aren’t you so excited!?
Miley has a great future at becoming the next Jenna Jameson! Because lap dances and pole dancing at the teen choice awards no less, is a great way to kick start THAT career.
What a proud Papa you’re going to be living off of her checks from (words I can’t even bring myself to type out) and also letting strange men (do more things I can’t bring myself to type out) because GAWD KNOWS you’re career didn’t do squat (unless you count landing that cushy job as Miley’s/Hannah’s dad and even then you seemed to have more moral fiber than you do right now but those were all scripted lines you were paid to read, RIGHT?) But I would never dream of calling you sucky-ass parent…
Oh wait. Yes. Yes I would.
And I am.
Billy you need to give your license to parent back. Just send it to me, it’s OK. I have a paper shredder and I’m more than happy to take care of it for you, because there’s no way in hell that you’re using it. Might as well send the wife’s back too. It will save on postage.
Maybe I’m the only one who’s totally sickened by all of this but hopefully, I’m not and you’ll leave me a comment weighing and sharing in my disgust!

Um, speechless. Absolutely speechless.
The song lyrics seem ok, if sung in an entirely different setting???
Gah!

Huh. That Miley. Like a bad early-Britney rip-off. And with really, really bad wings.
Yeah. I agree. I don’t think she’s in the tween and younger business anymore…
I heard on the news the other day that she was becoming another Brittay. Sad, just sad.

Amen, sister! Enough of Miley. She seems to be taking the Lindsay Lohan path, which is to say she’s on her way to self and career destruction. Great post.

Well, Hannah is definitely gone! If Miley was looking to get rid of her Disney kid-image, she has surely done that. I really hope this isn’t the start of a Britney-like future, but such a change to not think that is what could happen. WOW!

totally NOT surprised! When my boys were little it was Brittany Spears. I refused to let Disney on the TV after 2pm because that’s when they’d show her videos. It was rediculous then and still is now! GAH! Totally unacceptable!
BTW, I tagged you in a meme at my blog if you’d like to participate!
