Recycling an Old Toothbrush

So far the Sonicare 30 Day Challenge has been going great. Shorty has been a bit of a struggle but today he finally decided to let me help him brush. I wanted him to get in the habit of not forcing or shoving while the brush vibrated, and just use a circular motion while the toothbrush “massaged” his teeth. I could definitely see the difference of where I helped and he brushed!

We’re in week two and we were trying to figure out what to do with the old brushes. I really don’t like the idea of the kids thinking that they can use them again and I hate throwing something out that I know has the chance at a new life. So that got me to thinking…

How can you reuse an old toothbrush?

Luckily for me, I have some creative and inventive kids!

Shorty really went all out on his ideas… although I’m not sure how I feel about the belly button use; at least he was creative!

Here are some other uses for an old toothbrush:

  • Laundry stain remover (I do have another toothbrush in my laundry room for scrubbing stains out of clothes)
  • Sippy Cup Lid cleaner (great for using in the rims of the lids if you don’t have a bottle brush handy!)
  • Cleaning jewelry
  • In the bathroom around the faucet, tub caulking, toilet seat (eww but effective!)
  • Vegetable scrubber (potatoes, carrots, turnips! Get the dirt off those root veggies!)

Remember to make sure to keep your “new” toothbrush separate from the ones you brush with! You can mark it with a permanent marker or place a piece of masking tape around the handle to remind yourself and alert the kids that this is not for brushing teeth with!

What are some creative ideas you can come up with for reusing an old toothbrush?
